Meaning: "Dhruv" is a Sanskrit word that means "non-movable" or "immobile". However, this word is most commonly used to refer "pole star". Association of this word to "Pole star" is typically reasoned by a mythological story that goes like this - Long long ago there was a king named Uttanpad who had two wives - Suruchi (whom he loved) and Suniti (whom he hated). Suruchi's son was called 'Uttam' and Suniti's son was called 'Dhruv'. One day when Dhruv was sitting on King's lap, Suruchi came there and she scolded Dhruv for sitting on King's lap. She said that since Dhruv is the son of Suniti (whom the king hated), he is not allowed to sit on king's lap. On listening this Dhruv started crying and went to his mother Suniti. Suniti told him to pray lord Vishnu. When Dhruv prayed Lord Vishnu, Lord Vishnu gave him blessing and told him - "I will make a place for you in the sky from where nobody can remove you". And then he made Dhruv the 'pole star'.
