Meaning of this name is unknown.

Robert Lymburner says: My grandfather had the name traced by professionals at some point in the 1940s. Members of the family came to Quebec City in the 1760s & others to Maine about the same time. Cousins? From Ayrshire, likely Kilmarnock, where several are buried. Apparently, grandfather's expert found records dating back to 1400s. Some surmise "lime-burner" as the origin; or, as one gentleman I knew, possibly Danish settlers in Scotland in 12th Cent.
Lynn Lymburner says: Lymburner is a respelling of 'lime-burner' ('stone-burner' is another name related). Burning lime was an occupation - you burn limestone to make 'quick lime' which is used in fertilizer and various building materials. It was a very needed and respected profession to be a lime burner.
