Jasmine Shovlin says: I thought mine was the only Shovlin family in the UK!
Kieran Fingleton says: My mother's maiden name was Shovlin. She was originally from west Donegal in Ireland, where the name is quite common. My understanding is that the name is originally derived from the Irish words "súil amháin" meaning "one eye". If that is so then it is a variant of the name O'Sullivan which has a similar derivation.
