Meaning of this name is unknown.

Dibyendu Sensharma says: The origin of the Bengali Vaidyas (Baidyas / Boddis)may be traced back to the Vellala Senas ('Sena'- as they held high military posts) of Southern India (10th Century AD, who studied and staunchly followed the Vedas (hence Vaidyas). The Vellala Vaidyas also served as military leaders and high civil officers apart from being priests of the Dravidian kings. As they migrated northwards towards Bengal, they possibly came into contact with North Indian Brahmins, who practiced Ayurveda - and took up the practice from them. They may at the same time possibly have adopted the Surname 'Sharma' - a generic identity for the Brahmins. This section of the Vaidyas were allowed by King Vallal Sen of Bengal to wear the sacred thread. Hence 'Sena' and 'Sharma' or Sensharma! Surprisingly the gotra that most of the Sensharmas have (Dhanvantari) is also (and only) to be found among the Mohyal Pundits of Punjab!
