Dr Stephen Ogbonmwan says: Ogbonmwan originates from the Benin-Edo speaking people of Southern Nigeria. Offsprings of the man who was so named are found in nooks and crannies of the world. Strictly speaking they originated from Abehe area in Ogbe quarters behind the Oba's Palace in Benin City. After the invasion of Benin Empire in 1897, late Chief Eribo, the then Uwangue of Benin Empire took his family to his maternal grand father's place(Ogie Ugo Palace) in Ugoneki. As a traditional and a high ranking Benin Chief, he could not settle there completely. He moved a few kilometres west ward to found a new place called Iguehana village in present day Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. All the inhabitants of Iguehana village are blood relatives with the exception of the servants. The traditional shrine there belongs to Egbe Ivbi Ise of Emore family group with the morning salutation of La'more. Ogbonmwan means thunder when praise singing.
