Giancarlo Ferluga says: "The surname Ferluga-Felluga, who all claim to be of Spanish origin, is instead of merely a surname Slovenian augmentative suffix "uga" and base "Ferle", from the Latin "Florianus" and means Florianone. He has even given rise to the village of Ferlughi, in Italian: Conconello. The surname Ferluga, which is the seventh of Trieste, then fairly widespread, also branching out in Isola d'Istria, the land of boxer Nino Benvenuti, and becomes "Felluga" losing "r". Felluga then becomes one of the most common surnames in Trieste as well, with fifty-four families."
