Spanish is part of the Indo-European family of languages. It can be further classified as a Romance language, that is a language that is derived from Latin.2000 years before the birth the Christ, the Celtiberians were formed and started an early version of Celtic. The inhabitants of this region, later referred by scholars as Hispania, started to learn Latin from the Romans. The combination of the Celtic language and Latin evolved into what is referred to by many as Vulgar Latin.Later ,the Moors, an Arabic-speaking group, conquered the region.Arabic became the dominant language except for certain regions dominated by the Christians. When the Christians managed to claim back the conquered regions, the Vulgar Latin was again dominant language in all regions.

The Spanish of Spain is opposed to the Spanish spoken in Central and South America. In his trip to America in 15-th Century,Christopher Columbus established a primary language in the region, Castilian Spanish ( the so called "hispanización").As years passed the many local languages were makin communications difficult and keeping alive Spanish is those regions was uncertain over the years to come.Thats when the Catholic Church stepped in establishing learning intuitions in Spanish to spread Catholicism.Spanish explorers from Andalusia shaped the pronunciation of Latin American Spanish versus Castilian Spanish.

Spanish has loan-words from Basque in the north and Arabic in the south.
