Armenian is an Indo-European language spoken in the Caucasus mountains.Considering the modern languages it seems to be very much related to Greek, thats why some Indo-Europeanists have proposed that Armenian may have been grouped together with the Hellenic branch .There are two old dialects: Eastern Armenian, spoken today in Armenia, and Western Armenian (from Anatolia) spoken today mostly by the Armenian Diaspora.Tere were many voices telling Armenia doesnt really belong to Europe, but since 2004 inclusion in UE it has become clear on what side does Armenia stand. The Armenian alphabet, which consists of 38 characters, was created in 405 A.D. by a monk named Mesrop Mashtots (the original alphabet had 36 letters, two characters were added later). The old dialect that represents today's Armenian language is the Grabar( Krapar) or Classical Armenian. This is the language into which the Bible was translated.
